Millions of helpless animals, packed into small cold metal cages, administered with what seems to be an endless amount of drugs to try and cure the disease that they were injected with earlier that month. Innocent lives are thrown away due to careless experiments that are not always allowed to be used on humans due to how dangerous they are. The world has advanced so much in the world of science meaning that animal testing is not the only option. We can put a stop to animal testing, put a stop to suffering animals, and put a stop to the extremely brutal experiments. Animals should not be used for scientific or commercial test because of the way they are treated in the lab. Animal testing is “procedures performed on living animals for purposes …show more content…
To make matters worse “more than 100 million animals die each year due to experiments”(“Animal Experiments: Overview”). Animal testing can be very harmful and when animals are put into unethical experiments the results can be horrific and traumatic. To understand the severity of animal testing and how out of hand it can get is a story about one unethical animal test experiment that got a lot of attention was the monkey drug trials in 1969. This experiment was to test the effect of drugs like cocaine, alcohol, etc. on monkeys. The monkeys would learn how to inject themselves with the drugs and then were left alone with a large supply of drugs. “The animals were so disturbed (as one would expect) that some tried so hard to escape that they broke their arms in the process. The monkeys taking cocaine suffered convulsions and in some cases tore off their own fingers (possible as a consequence of hallucinations), one monkey taking amphetamines tore all of the fur from his arm and abdomen, and in the case of cocaine and morphine combined, death would occur within 2 weeks”(“Top 10 Unethical Psychology experiments”). This experiment cause harm to innocent animals when it was not necessary we already knew about the effects of those drugs.. Even though animal tests may not be as extreme as the one just mentioned. there are still more than 100 million animals that die each year due to
