Animal testing is unkind, and a lot of pain is inflicted upon the animals. The excuse of improving human lives should be rejected. The benefits should in no way prevails over the suffering that the animals have to go through. It is not morally acceptable for scientists to inflict pain on animals for testing medicines and merchandise; therefore, animal testing must stop, and scientists should find other ways to test goods.
Animal testing entails testing products on animals before merchandise is sold to consumers. They use animals to test for human products, when the animals they test on have different DNA and are not made up with the same body composition. Medical purposes of animal testing can benefit health issues and diseases that can be controlled with the right medications. According to Parry in “Medical Benefits,” animal testing has helped with Penicillin, Breast Cancer, blood transfusions, and kidney transplants. Animal testing has turned breast cancer into the second most survivable cancer in females. For blood transfusions, animals aided with the safety of citrated blood, and if animals weren’t tested open heart and other surgeries could not be possible today. Although positives can come out of animal testing, animals experience physical and psychological problems from being tested. When they are tested for medical purposes, “Animals will suffer from the symptoms of the disease or condition that is being studied” (RSPCA 2018). They are being tested to find a cure or solution to the medical problem, and to find that solution, the animals have to be injected with the disease or infection which causes pain to the animals.
