You put on makeup. You wash your child's hair in the bathtub. You clean your kitchen. But you don't really know what went into the products. These “chips” contain human cells grown in state of the art labs that mimic the functions of human organs (“Alternatives”). PETA, or the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, states, “The chips can be used instead of animals in disease research, drug testing, and toxicity testing and have been shown to replicate human physiology, diseases and drug responses more accurately than crude animal experiments do” (“Alternatives”). This shows that these new methods are better and more secure in their outcome than the outdated, traditional methods. Another example of alternative testing is from a company known as “Episkin”. This company provides reconstructed, In Vitro models of human skin and eye tissue. They sell it to various industries to provide an alternative method. Many big companies have partnered with them such as “Loreal”. And these are not the only alternative methods out there, other examples being, computer modeling, research with human volunteers, and human-patient simulators. Overall, there are plenty of new safer, cheaper, and more efficient options to test products. Even with all these new options, they are still not commonly being used. This has something to do with the fact that the public has only started expressing their opinions about animal testing
