Age doesn’t define maturity. Older people are always believed to be more mature; however, this is only because they have had more life experiences. They have faced many situations in life, but there exist young people who have been through their fair share of hardships which turned their innocent skin into strong armor. In the book,”The Glass Castle,” a young girl named Jeanette Walls is brought into this world by a selfish mother and a low-life father.
After reading Maya Angelou’s quote, I realized there are still many things I have to learn about life. This quote made me think about how many things go unappreciated everyday, and how we should be thankful for these things. It also inspires me to work harder so that I can reach my goals in life. I need to learn this so that I can become a more appreciative and thankful person towards my family and friends.

Trying to prevent neglected children and back-alley abortions, Margaret Sanger gave the moving speech, “The Children’s Era,” in 1925 to spread information on the benefits and need for birth control and women's rights. During most of the 1900’s, birth control and abortions were illegal in the United States, causing women to give birth unwillingly to a child they must be fully responsible for. This caused illness and possible death for women attempting self-induced abortion. Sanger uses literary devices such as repetition and analogies
There are times where people are incapable of “growing up” due to an illness that they have, which shows that this quote cannot be considered true for all instances. In those cases, it is beyond the control of the individual to mature and they are actually unable to do so. In most cases though, mental maturation is something that happens when a person wants it to happen and attempts to actually make it happen. There are a lot of times where people do not realize that they have to make an effort to actually grow up and so remain immature for a long period of time. They either do not realize that this could be detrimental to them in the future or simply do not care, but either way, they do not grow up.

Certain events affect a person's well-being and level of thinking in either a positive or negative way. Some people may think that in order to mature you have to have something bad happen to you in order to learn but that isn't true. Say you're a foster child and you finally find the right home and parents who love you dearly. This would affect you in a positive way showing that there is hope for even the most tragic events in
Maturity is not measured by age, race or gender, but it is measured when an individual takes an experience, owns up to their responsibility and starts to make a difference with that experience. Many people think that with age comes maturity, and that is invalid. For instance, the Suitors, they are middle aged men with little to no maturity. On the other hand, Telemachus gains maturity when he realizes that he must own up to the responsibility to control Ithaca and the suitors while Odysseus is gone. In the book The Odyssey, Telemachus and Odysseus experienced maturity throughout their journey in the novel written by Homer.

Maturity is the feeling of needing to prove that one is sophisticated and old enough to do certain things. In the short story “Growing Up,” Maria’s family went on a vacation while she stayed at home, but when she heard there was a car crash that happened near where her family was staying, she gets worried and thinks it is all her fault for trying to act mature and angering her father. Society wants to prove how mature they are and they do so by trying to do things that older people do and the symbols, conflict, and metaphors in the text support this theme. First and foremost, in “Growing Up,” Gary Soto’s theme is how society acts older than they are and that they just want to prove they are mature. Maria wants to stay home instead of going
Maturity had a big influence on my dedication. It has changed me not in just an internal way but also it has changed my way of life and how I live life.
