The Intuitionist written by Colson Whitehead (2000) has a protagonist character named Lila Mae who works as an elevator inspector. She is the type of individual that is independent, secure with her environment and takes pride in herself and the type of work she does. Suddenly, all of those aspects that she encompasses gets challenged when one of the elevators she inspected not too long ago crashes. From that point on she took that incident as an act of sabotage against her name and an act to discredit intuitionists. Whitehead (2000) takes readers on Lila Mae's journey trying to clear her name and through the process discover details on the founder of Intuitionism, James Fulton.

Cathy Ames has been criticized because she is completely evil. It has expressed throughout the novel that Cathy is inhuman. She has no emotion, no feelings, and no good in her. Many state that she is a symbol for Satan or a witch, who is pawn of Satan. People go so far in declaring that she is one of these evil spirits because even from birth she was filled with extreme evil and darkness, lacking characteristic that make up a human.
Desire is the need for an object, a feeling or a person. One can have a desire for something that is essential for survival, such as water or food, but desire could be used to harm others or oneself. Through A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, Ishmael’s perspective of desire was altered dramatically. These desires were changed from his surroundings or events that were taking place. In the book, Ishmael was easily manipulated by his desires.

Two of those many people that want the best for Sophie is her aunt, Macy, and her mom, yet they approach the situation in two different ways. Macy and Sophie 's mom are always concern for her safety.
In the book “Two Kinds” by Amy Tan, it’s about a little girl who is pressured by her mother to become something she doesn’t want to be. Jing- mei , the daughter, is forced to become a prodigy(child actress), by her mother, and she doesn’t want to be one. In the story, Jing- meis’ mother uses allusions such as Shirley Temple to push her into becoming a prodigy. Although at first Jing- mei is excited to become a prodigy, she later realizes its something she just doesn’t enjoy doing. Consequently, the uses of allusion in the story help Jing- mei discover to not be a prodigy and that what her mother wants for her is not always important.

Both presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump take on different sides on this sensitive issue. Donald Trump is pro life he is against the practice of abortion. Hillary Clinton on the other hand, is pro choice she supports that women should have a right to a safe legal abortion.
Stephanie Plum, Morelli, and Ranger are three main characters in the book, One for the Money, by Janet Evanovich. Stephanie is a young woman struggling to get by in the city of Trenton, New Jersey. After losing her job, she goes against her family’s request and gets the dangerous job of a bounty hunter. She gets assigned Joe Morelli, who was accused of murder and who happened to be a childhood enemy. Stephanie is very inexperienced and receives help from a professional bounty hunter, Ranger.
