On Friday April 20th, 2018, I attended a student recital featuring AnnaStasia Yoder and Pilar Athaide-Victor in Eidson-Duckwall Recital Hall. AnnaStasia Yoder is a cellist and Pilar Athaide-Victor is a violinist. Together, they played five compositions. Anna Briscoe performed alongside Pilar Athaide-Victor on the piano. The compositions played were from five well known composers and overall the recital was beautifully performed. The first piece played was Suite No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1008. This was composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. There were three movements: Sarabande, Menuets 1&11, and Gigue. The cellist performed this piece wonderfully. The cello is played again for the third piece which is called Elegie Op. 24, for Cello and Piano which was composed by Gabriel Faure. Like the second piece, the piano is played throughout the composition. The piano and cello complement each other well in this piece. In the beginning, the tune is melancholy, but intensifies at the end. There was a point where the cello backed off and let the piano overpower the room and vice versa. The fourth piece, Concerto No. 5 in A Major, K. 219, features the violin and piano. It was composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and included one movement, Allegro aperzo. In the beginning the violinist played fast, high notes and the piano had a higher time keeping up with the tune. There were multiple times in the piece where the violin and piano played the same notes simultaneously. The composition ends in a violin solo which displays the vast range the violin can do because there were jumps in octaves. This piece was played very well by both
