One of these people was a 13 year old girl named Anne, who was born in Germany, to an extent, she was a normal teenager, she went to school, loved spending time with her friends, had a very close relationship with her father and often butt heads with her mom. Her life was normal, joyful, that was of course until one day Anne’s sister, Margot received a deportation letter from the Gastapo calling her to one of the concentration camps in Nazi Germany. Anne and her family were already planning to go into hiding but this letter sped up the process and in essence forced them. During this time Anne’s father gave her a diary in which she invested most of her time in, writing about her conflicted emotions regarding her family, a possible love interest with a boy named Peter, who was one of the other four fugitives, and her insightful and evolving ideas about life. The entries were written in the form of letters to her imaginary friends. It was even taught in some schools, although this was extremely controversial. There are more than one versions of her diary that exist today. The first version being the original diary Anne wrote the first time, she then began editing and rewriting her first version of the diary, she did this after she heard a radio announcement about a writing competition regarding diaries written during the war. The third version is the diary that was edited by Anne’s father, Otto Frank, he later allowed this version to be published. The controversy regarding teaching the diary in schools was raised as some people believed that by only teaching children about the holocaust through the use of numbers and statistics made it distant. No she did not directly save millions of lives, nor did she spark a revolution or discover the theory of gravity. What she did, was inspire, she became a symbol of hope, and without hope we are lost. Her diary entries show us how to open ourselves up to love and move forward through such destructiveness. It shows us that no matter what may be happening around you, there will always be something to be thankful for, and that the only thing that you are guaranteed in life is yourself. As long as you never loose your hope, no one can take that away from you. Anne’s story inspires people to be good, virtuous people and to do good, she gives hope, and in my opinion the world does not need another genius businessman who is going to make millions for their own personal benefit. What the world needs is more good, find hearts, people with the best of intentions who will always believe, no matter
