Compare and Contrast Essay There is a great deal of things you can differentiate from the Diary of Anne Frank by Anne Frank and Farewell to Manzanar by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston and James D. Houston. These two books are similar because they take place in the same time frame, but different regions when the world was undergoing World War II. These two books document the story of two families that was affected by this time. The Diary of Anne Frank is about how she and her friends and family lived throughout World War II.
Everyone has done something in their life that they have deeply regretted and mostly refer back to their childhood. However, from a young age a person may not understand the issue until they grow into an adult. The author, Susan Perabo shows this to be especially true in her short story “The Payoff”. The use of the main characters Anne and Louise reveal how unwise a young mind can be in realizing the most simple of things. However, through the use of these characters an important message is suddenly conveyed over the story.
Anne Bradstreet and Mary Rowlandson, two women who had strong religious beliefs. Their strong religious beliefs made them to survive the struggles that they endured in their lives. Anne Bradstreet struggled with her faith and her acceptance as a writer in Puritan society. Mary Rowlandson struggled in captivity where she was taken hostage with her ailing daughter by the Indians. Both these women overcame their difficulties through their beliefs to God.

Watching how others react can help one become the best they can be. Throughout The Glass Castle, Jeannette is exposed to society by her parents. Her parents, Rex and Rose Mary, see society in different means than how others perceive it.
Claire Standish is labeled “The Princess” of the group as she is rich, beautiful, and possibly the most popular female at her school. Many people assume her life is perfect and a dream when in reality her parents are on the verge of a divorce. They use, pamper, and indulge her in order to spite each other and Claire is painfully aware of this. The group initially see Claire as a “snobby stuck up bitch” assuming she is solely shallow and materialistic.
“Annabel Lee” is the shared named of a poem and a song based off of it. Edgar Allen Poe wrote the poem “Annabel Lee” in 1849. The poem is about a man who has lost his love and is in mourning. Tiger Army wrote a song based on the poem in 2001. There are many similarities in the two pieces as well as some differences.

Both of these stories show that ordinary people can do extraordinary things.
Number 2, In Anne’s diary it said that she kept all of her thoughts and everything that she saw in there. So if mr. Van Daans stealing of the bread wasn’t in the diary then it must not have happened. So they had to make it up to add more action to the story/play. They also could’ve just put the stealing in there just to symbolize the meaning and how it was such a bad thing to steal the food.
