The Creative Evolution The article “Your Brain on Fiction,” by Annie Murphy Paul, states that there is a distinct relationship between the stories we read and the way they stimulate our brain. Furthermore, Author Sam McNerney published the article “Is Creativity Sexy? The Evolutionary Advantages of Artistic Thinking,” which links human progression to our creative thinking. Both authors are successful in making one concerned about the relationship between the creative stimulation in our brain and how one acts in life due to it. For example, Sam McNerney explains that creativity is an essential human trait that progressed the human race.
By reading “How to Read Literature like a Professor” and “The Kite Runner”, the reader is aided in his or her ability to understand the true meanings behind the text. One is able to decipher how the act of coming together to eat can mean anything from a simple meal with family, to an uncomfortable situation that leads to anger or stress in an individual character. The reader is able to understand the use of rain or other weather in a novel to transform the mood and tone of scene, or understand the cleansing or destructive qualities that weather may have on the overall plot of the story. Fiction books can have a great impact with their readers by talking about what happens in our society. Secondly reading fiction books is really beneficial because it helps you be more knowledgeable. There are more than 15,000 gang homicides across the United States. Luis, pg. 83, “ she was just too tired pulling me out of jail cells, of getting reports from school about the fights i’d been in, of expecting a call from a hospital or morgue “. This issue is relevant to the world because it can save someone's life and it prevents readers to getting involve with bad things.

After a great deal of religious influence, the self is likely to rebel (even to the extent of committing horrible misdeeds). This linguistically savvy character focuses on manipulating individuals into confessing secret information. Kinsey Millhone redefines the social order into a more desirable political view. Still relying upon realism and first-person narrative,Grafton endeavors to create a heroine that both rebels against and utilizes the genre attributes.
They also gain an understanding of that period in time, how people were treated during that period in time and what went on during that period of time. When reading a novel it is more enjoyable to read than reading a factual report or article. It has been proven that if you find something enjoyable you learn and understand the topic better and in more detail compared to if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing. From my own experiences I can relate to the evidence.
Vengeances Is Mines In the novel True Grit, Charles Portis makes a character named Rooster Cogburn. The character Portis makes a unique identity. Rooster is a unique kind of man because of his past as a criminal and now a marshal. Rooster Cogburn is a one of a kind character as a result of his bad history showed him how to kill. Likewise, Rooster is caring and has a connection to Mattie.

For example, she argues that people who often read fiction appear to be better able to understand other people, emphasize with them, and view the world from their perspective. " A 2010 study by Mar found a similar result in young children: the more more stories they had read to them, the keener their "theory of mind", or mental model of other people's intentions." Murphy also uses research to provide evidence that reading changes an individual.

The two readings I have chosen are Your Brain On Fiction by Annie Murphy Paul which is about how different parts of your brain react to certain words or phrases, and Is Creativity Sexy? The Evolutionary Advantages of Artistic Thinking by Sam McNerney which talks about the connection between sex and creativity. Murphy Paul and McNerney did a satisfying job keeping me concerned throughout the reading starting with the relations with gender, the title and the evolution with science. One thing that kept me interested in Sam McNerney’s article was how when it came to creativity and sex it depended on gender and motivational state, as said at the beginning of paragraph six. I can understand why people would agree with this because of the stereotype
