Marian Blankman, Joop van der Schee, Monique Volman, and Marianne Boogaard conducted a study to obtain more insight into what geography teacher-educators consider as the desired and actual achievement levels of PCK-G (pedagogical content knowledge-Geography) for their student-teachers at the end of initial teacher training and gain insight about the factors that influence these results. The results showed that transmitting knowledge, engaging students, and learning independence were the three conceptions of what is effective teaching. In relationship to technology, professors who encouraged independent learning used computers as tools for learning purposes; while, professors who encouraged transmitting knowledge simply used computers as a medium for presenting information. As I read this article, I realized that this article was for college level; however, I believe these concepts can apply to the primary level. This article is relevant to our question because in order to become an effective teacher, it is important to provide an active learning classroom. We need to engage students in “real-world” learning, promote student-centered learning, include collaboration activities, use technology for exploration rather than a presentation tool, etc. McMahon-Whitlock, A. The article provided knowledgeable, and effective methods (i.e. expectations, rules, motivation, etc.) to create positive classroom climates. The author of this article conducted research to determine what factors are important for effective classroom management and how teachers can motivate students. The data for this research was collected from questionnaires sent out to her co-workers. The results of her research confirmed that teachers need to have the knowledge, skills, and effective methods (i.e. feedback and praise, handling problems, rules, expectations, etc.) to create those positive classroom climates.
