Why cite the sources used in a research paper? Citing sources used in a research paper is important. It will help you support your argument and give based on fact basis to your work. It will also help the readers to find the materials you consulted. But the most important reason why it is important to cite sources in a research paper is to avoid plagiarism.

Quoting of a material is taking the exact words from the original and citing the author. It is not advisable to do quotations often. It is said that only 10% of the final paper should be in quotations. For examples:
