Annotated Bibliography for The Chicano Movement The Chicano movement helped improve the lives of all Chicano and Mexican generations in the United states in the way of helping end educational discrimination, Better Job pay, and having basic human rights. I hope to show the positive outcomes of the Chicano Movement and how the lives of Mexican-Americans today were changed. Chicano [chi-kah-noh, -kan-oh] (in North America) a person of Mexican origin or descent. Behnke, Alison. Mexicans in America. Lerner, 2005. “Mexicans in America” by Alison Behnke is a book about the life of Mexicans starting from the A.D. 1200s to 2004. Behnke mentions the Mexican American high school strike also known as the blowout in LA was organized by the Chicano High school students from all around LA asking for improvements such as wanting classes that that taught students about the Mexican heritage and classes that helped prepare Chicano students for jobs. This book is a good source to help answer “How did the Chicano Movement help improve the life of Mexican Americans?” because it talks about the measures Mexicans Americans took to have a better life in the united states. The Chicano Movement in Washington State is an article by Oscar Rosales Castaneda is an article condensing the events and actions involved with Chicano youth from washing state during the movement. Talking about how Mexican American youth was influenced by the Farm workers strike in California in the late 1960’s. this article also mentions how Chicano youth started to use the word Chicano to identify themselves.
