Research Question: How is life imprisonment more effective than the death penalty?
Annotation 1
Brazao, Michael S. “The Death Penalty In America: Riding the Trojan Horse of the Civil War.” The Modern America Volume 4, 2008.
This source is used just briefly in my essay. I cite this source in my introduction to follow and support the background information on the death penalty. I cited this source because Brazao has his own research on the death penalty and I cited how the crowds became unmanageable and public hanging stopped happening because of that. This source is from The Modern America Volume 4 which was issued in fall of 2008. I chose this source because it allowed proof of how crowds became unmanageable and supported …show more content…

I only directly cite a quote from this source twice of the four times I used it because I paraphrased information I gained from the source. I used Gordan Crew’s research to support my claim that “death row inmates also face much more severe and heavy restrictions” I was able to find supporting evidence from Crews because in his research he talked about how death row inmates have virtually no human contact and are in their cells for 23 hours of the day. He also says how when they are allowed out of their cells, they have to be in full-body restraints. This supports my claim for body paragraph three because comparing the restrictions of death row inmates versus the restrictions of lifers, death row inmates have much more severe restrictions and for as long as they’re in prison it just seems cruel. Gordon A. Crews is chair and professor of criminal justice at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Before becoming a teacher, Crews was working in law enforcement as a bloodhound/narcotics k-9 officer & trainer, field-training officer, and criminal investigator. He earned his bachelors and masters in criminal justice from the University of South Carolina. He then went to earn his Ph.D in education/criminal justice. Crews is president of the Veritas Consulting Group and appears as a consultant on national and international programming such as CNN, MSNBC, Good Morning America, Anderson Cooper 360◦, The Abrams Report, Nancy Grace, …show more content…

I use this source to support my claim that the death penalty costs more than life imprisonment. Spangenberg and Walsh’s research showed actual numbers and analysis of costs for the death penalty. I cited their research by using their New York study that compared a death penalty trial with the cost of life imprisonment. Robert Spangenberg earned his bachelors of science in Business administration at Boston University School of Business. He also earned a bachelors of law at Boston University School of Law. Robert Spangenberg is the president of the Spangenberg Group where they provide technical assistance, program evaluation, research and other consultant services on legal and court-related topics to government agencies (both state and local) and private organizations. He is also one of the leading experts on the development of defense systems for post conviction counsel in capital cases. He conducted research for the Administrative Office of the Federal Courts, the American Bar Association and state legislative and executive branches. Elizabeth Walsh is a graduate from the University of Wyoming College of Law and is a Ph.D student at the School of Criminal Justice at the State University of New York in Albany. She is a senior researcher in the Spangenberg
