A summer slide is when school ends in June or May and kids tend to lose and forget a lot of knowledge that they learned. Year-round schooling has no more than 8 weeks of break at a time. An extended year, a type of year-round schooling, adds 15-20 days to a normal school year. Another type of year-round schooling is a single-track. A single track is when everyone in the school is on the same schedule, going on break on the same days and coming back from break on the same days. 90% of year-round schools are single-track. Some people argue against year-round schooling because if it ain't broke, don't fix it. There is nothing wrong with the normal 180-day calendar, so some people don't think year-round schooling is necessary. A disadvantage of year-round schooling is that parents and children have conflicting schedules if the parents work, the parents will need to find care while they are away. One advantage of year-round schooling is there is no summer learning loss to wipe away the kids' memory of what they previously learned. Year-round schooling is 189 days per year, and different year-round schools have different break schedules including: 45-days of school and 15-days of break, 60-days of school and 20-days of break, and 90-days of school and 30-days of break. At a school, if all the kids learn year-round, then the school is called a single-track calendar. If not all of the kids attend school year-round, then the school uses a multitrack system. 42 studies have shown that year-round school shows no positive impact and 27 studies have shown positive
