The methodology of this article is very simple; it highlights its points, provides proof, analysis and conclusion. The article is very useful towards the research as it shows advantages to companies that respect privacies of their consumers and also highlights the responsibilities of customers themselves in learning more about privacies and using services that fit their need. In addition, since this article was written in 1999, it shows how privacy issues were being viewed in early days of internet; especially with no government policies in place regulating internet privacy. The article does not however discuss in detail what other steps consumers could take in order to protect their privacies except for choosing service providers carefully. Badie and Mary A. Higby specifically discusses the privacy of consumers in e-commerce and roles played by e-commerce companies and the government in determining whether or how consumer data are to be collected and used without violating consumers’ right to privacy. In addition, the article discusses the tools available to respect consumers’ privacy, examines the current business model used in e-commerce in the US and suggests possible ramifications or changes in the privacy laws in the business model. The authors discuss the issue of privacy in several different perspectives. Such as: Consumer perspective, business perspective and legislative perspective. This provides different viewpoints on the topic and the effect it has on each entity involved in the discussion. It also highlights the responsibilities businesses need to undertake while in possession of customer data and certain guidelines they need to follow decided by their governments. The article concludes by stating that voluntary privacy policies and legislative initiatives are necessary to provide protection of privacy for e-commerce consumers. In addition, as e-commerce grows, the public need to have more knowledge of privacy policies and their impact on e-commerce. This article will be useful for my research because it not only discusses the topic of consumer privacy in e-commerce but provides the point of view of e-commerce businesses and legislators providing better
