There are any genres, but one of the lesser known genres in literature, dystopian, has some of the most thought-provoking writing. The above quote is in one of the more famous of these written by Ayn Rand. Ayn Rand created dystopian novels and Objectivism, a philosophy based on self-importance. Used questioning and posing problems to innovate ways to overcome the one-dimensional thinking of the world, and illuminated the world by showing what would happen if we thought we were nothing and inspired writers of all genres. Ayn Rand is most famous for being the author of four dystopian novels. Those being Anthem, Atlas Shrugged, The Fountainhead, and We the Living. One of these fields is game development. In 2007, the company 2K released BioShock. This game heavily references Ayn Rand’s books and ideals by showing a city named Rapture, which is based off of Galt’s Gulch from Atlas Shrugged. In both the novel and the game, the creator encourages a strike of the mind because they are both unsatisfied about not being credited for their work. In another example, both an antagonist, Andrew Ryan, and Ayn Rand believe the government should only keep rights and should ignore the market. Andrew Ryan is based on John Galt, both are described as a genius and rich. Ayn Rand has impacted and influenced the world in many ways. Ayn Rand changed the world and created novels that would be later known as classic literature. While they were not well recepted at first, Ayn Rand was eventually noticed as a great novelist and philosopher. These novels that were disliked eventually influenced a well known video game in the survival genre.
