Anthem Women's Rights Quotes
In the beginning of the Anthem written by Ayn Rand, Equality 7-2521 was always told to act like his brothers, he was punished and disciplined as a child. They even state the same saying before bed each night, “We are all and all for one, there is no we only the great we, one indivisible and forever. ”(Chapter 1, Paragraph 8) Equality 7-2521 even states “We repeat this to ourselves, but it helps us not. ”(Chapter 1, Paragraph 9), basically he is saying that he has said this saying his whole life before he goes to bed, but he doesn't believe in what he states.
How Does One Lead a Rational Life in the Great Rebirth Ayn Rand is an illustrious writer, known for many of her works including the short novella Anthem and her short essay How Does One Lead a Rational Life in an Irrational Society. In Anthem, she speaks of a dystopian world set in the future with primitive technology. The Council expects everybody to look, act, and generally be the same as one another; however, Equality, the main character of Anthem, does not conform to the social norm. He rebels from the cookie-cutter system and learns to see the deep err in the way of the Council and finally realises the effects that the abusive treatment of the citizens creates.

The context of the text was to support women’s rights by encouraging women to better themselves as wives by valuing intelligence and culture over beauty. He discovers that if something is legal it is not certainly right. His eager for knowledge taught him the word “I” abandoning the word “We”.

In Anthem, published in 1938, Rand writes how Equality 7-2521 is treated unfairly amongst his society starting with being assigned the menial job of a Street Sweeper.
In the words of Ayn Rand, “The word We is as lime poured over men.” This quote portrays the book Anthem and the threats of “We” that take place during the red scare. Anthem, written by Ayn Rand, depicts a story that revolves around a young rebellious man who goes against the collective mind of his society and follows his passions and ideals in the world where everything about the past has been wiped out from a great war. Equality, with strong reasoning, had motivation of personal interest that allowed him to escape from the collective society Equality’s motivation is fueled by personal interest. “It is a sin to write this, It is a sin to think words no other think and to put them down upon a paper no others are to see.
When one is confined to society and held captive against their ego, it is imperative that they learn to eulogize their own individuality, and learn to improve themselves. In Ayn Rand’s novella, Anthem, Rand uses Equality 7-2521 to communicate the importance of the individual. Equality has always had his own sense of individuality that causes him to stand out and defy the social norms. His individuality allows him to persevere and diverge from collectivist society.

Title Michel Foucault once said, “There are forms of oppression and domination which become invisible. . .” The government, in Ayn Rand’s Anthem, is long since corrupt and has perverted their original idea of equality. Even though true equality will never be, this government has completely taken over all aspects of their citizens’ lives and the people do not acknowledge anything wrong. Oppression has become the normal reality for the citizens crushing their spirit until someone started to break the mold. Equality 7-2521 slowly confronted the injustice in his pursuit for knowledge.
In the novel Anthem the author, Ayn Rand discusses the ways Equality 7-2521’s world is a dystopia because independent thought, information and freedom are restricted, the natural world was banished and distressed, a concept is worshipped by the citizens and the society is an illusion of a perfect , utopian world. To begin with, Ayn Rand explains how the Equality 7-2521’s world is a dystopian society because the freedom of think and do anything for yourself is restricted. Equality states “It is a sin to write this. It is a sin to think words no others think and to put them down upon a paper no others are to see... It is as if we were speaking alone to no ears but our own.

Also, sex is something that just doesn’t happen in the world of Anthem, sex isn’t really a taboo, it just doesn’t happen except for an event that happens once a year in a big room. Unlike 1984, where sex was allowed as long as it wasn’t emotional, sex only happens on a holiday set aside for it in Anthem. Orwell thought that if communism were to come to fruition, there would be a constant watch over people to make sure that nobody steps out of line, and the people wouldn’t want to deal with the insanity of the laws the government sets up. Ayn Rand thought that if communism was successful, there would be little to no need for a police force because the people would be so conditioned to think a certain way, that they would oppress the people who don’t think that way all on their own, without the need for a police
Anthem is a book that makes oneself contemplate the future and what evils are bestowed upon it. In this novel, the reader is caught in the life of Equality. Equality’s life is placed in the future, where the feared reality of communism has conquered all but the souls of few weary men. Equality is one of those few men who have a light that is invulnerable to a ravaging wind. Equality’s time captive before his extraordinary escape has taken a toll on his body and mind and now at the end of his journey forces him to question whether the decisions he’s made are full of sin or teeming with righteousness.
