Anthropomorphism In How Stories Came To Earth By Kwaku Anansi

There were many uses of anthropomorphism in the three stories. The first story is called “How Stories Came to Earth”, in this story one of the many uses of anthropomorphism is that the spider, Kwaku Anansi, “Sometimes looks more like an old man than a spider.” This is an example of it because spiders do not look like old wise men. They gave a non human character human qualities. The next story is “The Coyote Steals The Fire”, in this story a Coyote plays a game against his uncle and cheats in order to get fire from his uncle. “He continuously distracted Thunder so that he could not watch what Coyote was up to.” This an example of anthropomorphism because coyotes cannot play games and cheat at them in order to win. The last story “The Master Cat” has a character named Puss in Boots and he wears clothes like humans do. “He brashly pulled on his boots, hung the pouch around his neck.” This is anthropomorphism because cats don’t normally wear clothes like humans do. Every time he captures a creature he calls it a fool for humor and make the creature feel ridiculous. The story says” Fool, now I will take you to the Sky-God.’’ In the story “Coyote Steals Fire”, Coyote says many humorous comments. One of them is when he jokes with thunder on his poor gambling skill. It says “Goodbye Uncle. Don’t gamble. It is not what you do best.” He said this to humiliate his uncle because just made him look silly. Last is “The Master Cat”, he made the Ogre change into a smaller animal. It states “The cat was so terrified at seeing a lion before him that he instantly scurried up to the gutters on the roof, not without some pain and peril, for his boots were not made for walking on tiles.” This is humorous because he acted scared so that he could get the Ogre to change into something that he could
