The film entitled Gran Torino defines many aspects of not only an iconic American muscle car but, a man who in current times has American non-traditional values. Walt Kowalski is a elderly decorated Korean war veteran who is living in a predominantly non white neighborhood. Struggling to recover from his wife suddenly passing away, Walt finds himself in a situation where he reluctantly befriends his next door neighbor who happens to be Hmong and also tried to steal his beloved Gran Torino. In this event, Walt soon finds out that he has more in common with his neighbors than his own family. In relation to Dan Flory’s theory in the article “Spike Lee and the Sympathetic Racist” the character of Walt Kowalski does not function as a “sympathetic racist” because the viewer cannot easily admire or relate with him due to his behavior and choice in verbal repugnancy to people of other races.
The novel detailed the importance of seeing people that look similar to oneself being portrayed in a positive light. Children grow up believing the stereotypes which movies pass on as truth. A study was conducted in a preschool that tested the correlation misrepresentation had with racial stereotyping. Children were shown images of African American males and Caucasian males. It is truly evident that the fundamental focal point of the whole motion picture is bigotry. Bigotry is characterized as the conviction that all individuals from each race forces attributes or capacities particular to that race, particularly to recognize it as substandard compared to another race, which prompts preference and oppression somebody of an alternate race. The film determines its attention on bigotry in the unified states. As we clearly all know, prejudice has been one of the greatest issues that american culture has looked since its establishing and even previously.
The movie “Do The Right Thing” by Spike Lee, illustrates the issues with discrimination with a mix community. Major problems rise when stereotypical views, racism, and conflicts flare between the varied ethnic groups. A difference of opinion and views caused the issues to erupt. Stereotypes are defined by a common trait or behavior in an ethnic group. African Americans are portrayed as loud, overreacting, and chaotic individuals, when simple confrontations arise.
My results from the race implicit association test (IAT) suggested that I have moderate automatic preference for white people over black people. This came as a surprise to me. Given that I have always considered myself a strong liberal and have consistently placed equality as a top priority, the test definitely changed my perspective on how people think automatically. Compared to other people 's results, they most likely had the same realization I had. Many explicit attitudes did not correlate to the study of implicit attitudes.

I decided to switch my artifact for the research paper from John Erick Dowdle’s No Escape (2015) to Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now (1979) because I think this film is more suitable for what I want to research, which is how and why the media actively shapes Americans’ perception of historical events. I am also especially interested in the role Orientalism plays in this process. Unlike No Escape, Apocalypse Now has a lot more historical significance because it came out a few years after the Vietnam War (1955-1975) and is considered one of the most famous films about the Vietnam War. In addition to that, there is more room for debate about the significance of the film and its portrayal of Southeastern Asians.
The three most prevalent races that comprise the population of my school are White, African American, and Hispanic. Whites are the predominant demographic occupying about 85% of the population, followed by African American at 13% and Hispanic at 2%. This ratio has been relatively stable for the last forty years, with a slight increase recently in the Hispanic populace. Throughout the course of our lives, we are often exposed to stereotypes that help form our opinions. In many instances these beliefs are not based on reality, but on information that has been passed down for generations.

The traditional Chinese cultures have a development process for thousand years, now we are creating another kind of traditional culture especially under the wave of globalization. Although the form of expressing or performing the culture experienced some changes but the basic idea and belief behind rarely changed. To promote Chinese culture we would refer to the essence of Chinese wisdom so the following is actual practicing of different dimensions of Chinese traditions which show the beauty of China. The family concept is the essence of Chinese culture.
