Summary and usefulness: Extract 1 Nazi Germany introduced anti-Semitic propaganda such as the film documentary called The Eternal Jew. The use of Jewish elements, which included the Star of David and Hebrew-like fonts, separated Jewish people from the Germans. Artifacts 17, 18 and 19 portray Jewish people as racially inferior looking compared to the Germans. The Jews are shown to be weak, old-looking, evil and the undesirables. This source is from one of Josef Goebbels speeches in which he describes how it is the Jews fault for the misfortunes of Germany and Goebbels makes many dehumanising comments about Jewish people. This speech is an example of dehumanising and scapegoating propaganda which sets out to turn people against Jews and make them believe they are to blame and inferior. Reliability: Source B is unreliable. The source is of Josef Goebbels, the Minister of Propaganda’s speech at the 1933 Nuremberg Rally, in Nazi Germany during the Nazi regime. This makes the source biased against the Jewish people as the speech is completely one sided towards Nazi Germany and the fact that it is said by the Minister of Propaganda hints bias and unreliability. The intended audience of this speech is the German people of Nazi Germany and this also proves bias as Goebbels is using propaganda to win the minds of these people by scapegoating and dehumanising Jews. The use of emotive language such as “bloody”, “Jewish danger”, “plastic demon of composition”, “destructively” and “constant danger” by Josef Goebbels in his speech shows that the source is biased and therefore unreliable. This source is also an extract which makes it unreliable because we do not know the
