For my report on the play Antigone written by Sophocles, I will be describing two relationships, explaining how they reflect the ideas and values from the classical world, compare the similarities and differences between the two relationships and evaluate my sources of evidence. Antigone is play about a girl named Antigone who had buried her brother Polynices, which she was not supposed to as per Creon (Kyrios/King) orders. Creon finds out about this and calls Antigone to give her the punishment of the deed she had done. The two relationships I will be describing are Antigone & Creon and Creon & Haemon.

Because Creon was the Kyrios he would always use his throne power against Antigone. Not only Kyrios in fact all the ideas and values above. “I will take her down some wild, desolate path never trod by men, and wall her up alive in a rocky vault, and set out shot rations, just measure piety demands to keep the entire city free of defilement”. This quote said by Creon in lines 870-874, shows how well Antigone and Creon’s relationship reflects the values and ideas …show more content…

Even though that Creon and Haemon were both men, in the Social hierarchy chart Creon would always be at the top because he was the Kyrios. Gender Roles and obligation were reflected in the father-son relationship. Creon would always fulfil his duty as a father, Haemon also fulfilled all his duties. A duty as son and a duty gender role, as the fiancé of Antigone. “You will never marry her, not while she’s alive”, said by Creon line 842. “Then she will die…but her death will kill another”’ said by Haemon line 843. These lines said by the father and on shows that Creon was trying all his best to tell son not marry Antigone but Haemon was also right in his spot so he didn’t listen to his father wrong
