Who was Anton Chekhov? What did he do that made him famous? Anton Chekhov was a Russian writer of short stories, plays, and novels. He was awarded many awards for his works and he was a member of the established Literary Cannon. Anton’s life was about his great masterpieces and how he wrote plays, novels and short stories until his hand could not write anymore. How did Anton Chekhov’s younger self affect his way of writing? A few things that may have affected him when he was younger were when his family left him and when he moved to Moscow. When Anton was about 16 his family fled to Moscow to avoid prison because of their debts and failing business; leaving Anton alone in his hometown to finish his studies in medical school. This could have affected Anton because he had to mature much faster and earlier than typical teens and he had to get a job so he could pay the bills. His job was to write short stories for local magazines and newspapers. He wrote under the name of Antosha Chekhonte because he was too young to submit articles under his real name. When Anton completed his studies, he moved to Moscow.
