In today’s society, there are over ten thousand adolescents with undiagnosed psychiatric disorders, the most common disorders being anxiety, bipolar disorder, and depression. The main character of this novel struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety. Post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD is a psychological reaction that occurs after an extremely stressful or terrifying event. Depression is shown by a persistent depressed mood or loss of interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life, which in this case is stemmed from PTSD. Anxiety is portrayed by feelings of worry, anxiety, or fear that is strong enough to interfere with a person’s daily life. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is coming-of-age
