I chose AoS1- Rhythm and Metre, with AoS4 - Timbre and Dynamics and AoS5- Structure and form. The link to the popular music of the 20th & 21st centuries strand is through a piece of mood music appropriate for a peaceful yet mysterious snow scene in a film or musical. I chose these areas of study because I play both the piano and oboe and I recently watched the film Narnia and the soundtrack to this film is very emotive. I have heard this used in many pieces of film music and I wanted to try and recreate it in mine as I found it would build up the image of a curious child seeing snow for the first time. With timbre and dynamics, I used a range of staccato notes on the piano to create the illusion of the snow falling onto the ground, I had heard this used in the Narnia music and wanted to add my own twist by speeding my the snow fall and rather than just playing single notes playing in chords. When I chose structure and form I decided that to produce the image of the calm before the blizzard and after, I would use an arch shape, A B A’ structure. The first section A is when the little girl is looking out of he window at the mysterious snow followed by a clear section B where there is a blizzard in which she can see the animals playing which then returns to a slightly changed section A so A’
