Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein explores the complex relationship between a creator and his creation. Victor Frankenstein is a very intelligent man who was overtaken by the pursuit of knowledge. This curiosity, along with two years of tireless work, led him to construct a creature from dead body parts and electricity. Victor’s relentless pursuit of knowledge is a powerful symbol of the consequences that arise from pushing the boundaries of science. These emotions eventually cause Victor to seek revenge against the creature. The creature is also a very emotional character; for the being he is, he quickly learned and experienced what emotions are. After Victor runs out on him, he has to go and find somewhere to live. Within that time, he comes across William, Victor's younger brother. He is out playing hide and seek with his siblings when the monster finds him and kills him because he is so angry at Victor for abandoning him. This anger is seen throughout the rest of the novel in both the creature and Victor. Victor learns of his brother’s death and instantly feels guilty for it. Deep down, he knows that the creature did it. From this point on, Victor is on a revenge mission to get the creature for harming his family.
