“The idea that there was a great revival or rebirth of literatures and the arts, after thousands of years of cultural sterility, in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries originated with the Italian writers of the Renaissance themselves.” (Document 10). The Renaissance has become one of the most famous time periods in history. With its new revival of learning and art, it is one of the most interesting to look at and study. However, what we fail to realize most of the time is the impact that the Renaissance had on our lives today. For this first time in many years, art in the Renaissance time period went back to the styles of the Ancient Greeks and Romans. Many sculptors looked towards at the style of Roman sculptures, and Roman and Greek architecture were very prominent; the roof of the Cathedral in Florence, Italy, is a dome room, modeled after the Pantheon in Rome. W.T. Waugh made brought up a group of people called humanist in A History of Europe: “The merits of the artists and the influence of the Humanist scholars must be acknowledged…” (Document 6). Humanists, who were usually rather wealthy, would give money to people working in different categories and encouraged things such as art or education; artists benefited from this because the humanist would pay for art classes, supplies, or sometimes even room and board. Although many famous artists have come from the Renaissance period, two of the most famous are Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.
