Before the French Revolution happened, the enlightenment came. It was the time where thoughts were collected and that allowed freedom for people to think. It highlighted the rights of the people rather than the privileges enjoyed only by the privileged. Rousseau carried the idea by putting out a system of governance predicated on a social compact between the citizens and their elected officials. Although the French Revolution had economic difficulty, it had some ideological causes because of the direct impact of enlightenment ideas on French.
