Getting familiar with some of the concepts in chapter ten was new for me. I didn 't really know any of the information in chapter ten at all. I learned a lot in the chapter about a wide range of topics. What I learned will better help me understand people on a daily basis.
The first concept I liked to learn about was Horney 's Neo-Freudian Perspective. Karen Horney was a psychologist that took on women 's issues. She was called the fist female psychologist. She said that personality develops because of social relationships and your relationship between parent and child. It depends on if the child 's needs are met. Horney said that "women don 't envy a man 's penis, but they envy their independence, success, and freedom women are denied." She …show more content…

The second concept I liked was self-esteem. Self-esteem is always a big issue to a lot of people. Self-esteem is the component of personality that encompasses our positive and negative self-evaluations. People can have high self-esteem in one are and low self-esteem in another area. Some people have low self-esteem just sometimes when they get down. Others have low self-esteem all the time, and it has just become a part of their lives. Failure is just part of their life and since they have low self-esteem they always are failing. It can be a self-destructing cycle that needs to change (p.400).
The last concept is the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2). I found this test interesting. This test measures self-report, which is gathering information about people by asking them questions about a sample of their behavior. This test was suppose to measure specific sorts of psychological difficulties, but it predicts a variety of other behaviors. It can measure if college students will marry within ten years of graduating. It can also measure if a police officer will use his weapon (p. 410).
Overall I learned different concepts that I never knew before. I learned how to better understand people and where they are coming from. In the end I got something out of the
