The Narmer Palette shows more of a sectioned off story, on one side it is showing Narmer, the Pharaoh, larger than any other person or god in the scene, depicting how much absolute power he had at this time (Cunningham, Pg. 22). The Palette shows the goddess Hathor watching over the events like it is an arena and the Falcon that symbolized the god Horus, with a rope around a head, possibly indicating the capture of Pharaoh of the other kingdom (Cunningham, Pg. 22). The back includes the battle scene and the goddess still watching over Narmer, as well as a bull knocking down a wall, most likely symbolizing Lower Egypt’s defeat as well as two creatures entangled with each other in unison
He looks very much like a human. He represents power and leadership. In order for him to represent masculinity, he had to look high and mighty because he had the role of having divine natures. He is in the gallery where other figures of kings and gods of ancient Egypt are placed. Even though he is not the biggest figure in the gallery he still gets sufficient light to show he is significant.
For if Athena knew of Odysseus’s plight and imminent return, it seems illogical, at first, that she would send Telemachus on such a risky trip. Athena disguises herself and reveals to Telemachus that his father is alive but tells him to sail in search of more information, “Do you hear me: As a goddess, yesterday/ you came to us, command me to sail/ across the shadowed sea, that I might learn/ about my long-gone father’s coming home” (32). Athena has Telemachus best interest at heart and by commanding him to find his father she played a big role in helping him shape himself and grow into the man he was destined to be. He takes Athenas’ advice and finally comes to the realization that he needs to stand up to the suitors, “Throughout all those years/ when I was still a boy, you suitors squandered/ the riches that were mine. But I am grown;/ and listening to the words of others, I/ can understand…” (33). Telemachus then sets off to find more information on his father and his possible whereabouts “I’ll come fetch what you’ve prepared.

The Odyssey revolves around a household without its master, Odysseus, who has been lost for 10 years. Despite that, Agamemnons’ death by his faithless wife isn’t the main focus of the Odyssey, but it is still frequently mentioned. Aegisthus can be thought of as the suitors who are seen at the beginning of the Odyssey feasting and sipping wine all day. His affair with Clytemnestra, his murder of Agamemnon and then later on, his death by Agamemnons’ son Orestes, foreshadows the inevitable death waiting to consume the suitors’ lives for their efforts to destroy Odysseus household. The stories set up is similar in a way that there are two returning heroes, Agamemnon and Odysseus, their sons, Orestes and Telemachus, and their wives, Clytemnestra and Penelope respectively.

Aeneas takes solace in the fact that his heirs will continue to fight bravely, as shown on the shield. Furthermore, he knows that if he does not fight bravely for Rome, there will no longer be a Rome for his descendants to fight for, which inspires him. The shield also instills a certain confidence in Aeneas because he is shown several victories of Rome, including a battle that should not have been necessarily won. First, Athena makes a plan for Odysseus to meet Princess Nausicaa on Phaiacia. The two Greeks do meet, and even though Odysseus is a complete stranger, which the Phaiacians are not fond of, that Nausicaa is aware of, the princess welcomes Odysseus and makes a plan for him to stay in her father Alcinoos’ palace. When Odysseus arrives in the palace of Alcinoos, he is given a throne in which Alcinoos’ son Laodamas was previously sitting in, and is given a feast. “There they were, face to face: the King in his majesty, and the castaway with only his knowledge of man and his ready wit. Alcinoos held his hand out to Odysseus and led him from the hearth to a high seat where his own son was sitting, near himself, for he loved the courteous Laodamas best of all his sons.
However, their character as men are not alike; Aeneas is very “duty-driven”, while Odysseus is driven mainly by his own self-interest. Aeneas gathered his family and followers and took the household gods (small images) of Troy, but, in the confusion of leaving the burning city, his wife disappeared. Virgil doesn’t give a lot of insight at the beginning of the story as what happened while he was making his escape. We do learn that his wife trails behind and dies. In Aeneas’ Flight from Troy written by Winfried Schleiner, he gives a better understanding and paints a picture of what happened as he was preparing to leave. Schleiner talks about how Aeneas loyalty seems to be more towards his father than his wife and son.
