On July 20, 1969 the Unites States were the first ones on the planet to successfully land on the moon Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, and Michael Collins were the astronauts involved. Neil Armstrong was the Command Pilot and the Commander of the mission he also was the first man to walk on the moon. Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin was a Pilot and the Lunar Module Pilot. Michael Collins was a Pilot and the Command Module Pilot. The primary mission for the Apollo 11 Mission was to successfully land on the moon.

There were three astronauts aboard, which where Fred Haise, Jack Swigert, and Jim Lovell. Apollo 13 was a mission for these three intelligent astronauts to land on the moon, which did not happen. These three men where very close to landing on the moon until they had a problem with the oxygen.

That Apollo 8 flight, I think was the most important flight of this program. ‘It was the first time men had left the confines of the earth, the first time that they were captured by another body and this was the first real exploration into space,’ said Jim Lovel. The Apollo 8 Mission was launched at Cape Kennedy on December 21, 1968. The astronauts that were launched into space were Frank Borman, Jim Lovel, and Bill Anders.
The Apollo Space Program also known as “Project Apollo” was the third United States human Spacecraft that successfully accomplished the task of landing a man on the moon. All together there were fifteen manned flights of the spacecraft from the years 1968-1975. Prior to the manned missions into space, the team used the Apollo command and service module to test the safety of the aircraft. It successfully completed four trips to space. Safety became a huge issue after Apollo 1 (a ground test) killed astronauts Grissom, White, and Chaffe due to a fire.
On November 14, 1969, Apollo 12 launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 11:22am in search for another human landing on the moon. The Module was 363 foot tall and is the second mission to land humans on the moon for the United States and is also known as the “Pinpoint” mission. The first mission in which humans walked on the moon was Apollo 11 that occurred just a few months prior. The main purpose of this mission was to bring back information and photos for future missions down the road. Apollo 12 landed on the moon on the 19th and was directly on the Ocean of Storms.
He then went on Apollo 11 took off to space not know that it would change the world and be a historical moment within the world. There was two other men that went on the mission with Neil Armstrong and they were Michael Collins and Edwin Aldrin Jr “Buzz”. “An estimated 530 million people watched Armstrong's televised image and heard his voice describe the event as he took "...one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind" on July 20, 1969.” (NASA). They spent a little over 21 hours on the moon surface.
Apollo missions took exploration to another level. Apollo 11 mission was the mission that allowed man to land on the moon. The motivation that led to the discovery was much related to the unsuccessful “N1” Rocket. NASA was also motivated politically, they wanted to beat Russia to the moon and prove that they could be successful. Questions asked were, could they be the first one to make it to the moon?
From a young age, Neil Armstrong was interested in the flying and operating of an aircraft. In 1962, he became an astronaut and worked for NASA. This American astronaut was able to go on two missions; the Gemini 8 as a commander in 1966 and the Apollo 11 as a mission commander in 1969. Moreover, the Apollo 11 mission occurred from July 16, 1969 to July 20, 1969. Armstrong was able to make history for space exploration as he and another astronaut, Buzz Aldrin (who was the second American astronaut to walk on the moon) were able to collect samples
Apollo seven was the first flight with a crew. They had to orbit the earth and demonstrate multiple photograph and medical experiments during the flight(Williams). Apollo eight, nine, and ten were all used to test the crew and make sure everyone and everything was capable of handling the missions(Loff). Apollo eleven was the first mission to actually land on the moon and have mankind step foot on the moon. It was a successful flight to the moon and also back to the earth.

After completion of the Apollo project, NASA is now in a transition as it looks for a new project to replace Apollo. There exist a need for the public to be informed of NASA’s aim and expectation, so as to provide informed consultation (Learry, 1990). As a matter of public policy, society also ought to be aware of the workings of NASA so as to continually check on the agency’s future expenditure and expectations (Committee on Meeting the Workforce Needs for the National Vision for Space Exploration, Space Studies Board, Aeronautics and Space Engineering Board, Division on Engineering and Physical Sciences, National Research Council, 2006). New program will ultimately have to meet the economic realities of today. As such the public has to look at whether the benefits gained from the Apollo vis-à-vis the cost.
