I was overjoyed when I gained admission to the BDS program at AECS Maaruti College of Dental Sciences & Research Center, Bangalore India. Apart from studies, attended camps that aimed at providing free dental care to people who cannot afford it. These camps gave me a chance to use my education to give something back to the community. Got the highest score of my class in my first year and continued to perform well being in the top 5% of the class. I completed a one year internship during which I performed a wide range of dental procedures. I also had the privilege of undertaking voluntary work with school children. I provided routine and pedodontic treatments to children and educated them in oral hygiene.

I Obtained an RDA certification from Texas to better understand the American way of treating patients. I gained a better understanding of patient care in terms of technology and patient communication. Working as a dental assistant for Dr. Kavitha Doddamane, DMD and MS in Endodontics, opened more opportunities to grow in Dentistry. Competently exposed and mounted dental digital x-rays and used the endovision software efficiently. Subsequently, shadowing Dr.Vidyavathi Konegowda DDS, helped to gain more knowledge in dentistry with a deeper insight of working in the United States. Observing her dealing with everything from routine cases to complex ones, I have learnt from her diagnostic and analytical approach to cases. In addition, I understood the differences in the dental practices between India and The United States, like dental insurance, more awareness and more comprehensive approach to oral health care, emphasis on preventive care and the use of modern technology like dental software and digital radiography in the US. This further strengthened my determination to pursue dentistry here. I have volunteered for community service programs at the Sai Baba Temple in Plano, TX, and I am also a registered volunteer with the American Red cross.
