“Growth is painful. Change is painful. But, nothing is as painful as staying stuck where you do not belong” a quote by N. R. Narayana Murthy. This quote is the epitome of my career as a student thus far. The ups and downs, the long nights of studying, beginning my undergraduate studies, I truly was not prepared for the difficulties I would face. But despite my trials and tribulations, I knew it would be worth it. To many, change is something that brings an excessive amount of stress and anxiety, I was one of those individuals, now I welcome change as an opportunity to grow and improve myself as a person. I belong in the field of medicine; the journey to getting to this point has only confirmed it.

There has not been a doubt in my mind since a young age that I wanted to have a career in the field of medicine. The pre-medicine club at my college was offering the opportunity to shadow at FastMed Urgent Care facilities around the valley during the summer of 2016. Out of the many students who applied and interviewed, I was one of the two lucky students to be chosen for the internship. During my experience, I shadowed physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants throughout their day. I followed closely as we evaluated patient x-rays, discussed vital signs, and stressed the importance of professionalism, compassion, and building a rapport with every patient encounter. Being present at a clinic sparked my critical thinking skills by allowing me to experience first hand what goes into finding a treatment suitable for each individuals needs and made me even more excited to one day be in their
