Last summer, I landed an internship with Halcyon International at the Marche du Film of the Cannes Film Festival. I was exposed to the vast international world of filmmaking at the festival. It was a challenge, having to put myself out of my comfort zone and network with experienced people in the film industry. I met a lot of young talented individuals from various origins. They told me about journeys of their struggles for success. All of their stories have one thing in common: they never stopped looking for what makes them click, what gives them the motivation to push their creativity beyond boundaries.

Additionally, it is not just in the academic career that creates a successful person, it is how that person makes connections and functions in the industry. One of my film professors, Professor Erica Watson, played an important role in my decision to transfer. She told me that I had the dedication and the potential to go far. But in order for that to happen, I needed to experiment with different arenas to diversify my film knowledge. Having said that, the Communication School of Elon offers internships to most of the students which is a great opportunity for me to get more hands-on experiences. I look forward to engaging in a bustling new community to learn more about people in the industry: what of their mistakes I can learn from and what makes them successful. I also have a new chance of contributing myself to the discussions over hot topics through the expression of film.
