Graduating in the top 5% of my class and early acceptance in the pre-civil engineering major has fulfilled two of my high school education goals. As I enter Oregon State University, I will work toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a dual major in Sustainability. While in college, I hope to gain valuable experience as an intern within the industry to learn on the job aspects of all options available. After college, I will pursue a career where I can create infrastructures that not only improve and protect the environment, but utilizes innovative, logical and collaborative approaches. I am inspired that civil engineers impact our environment while creating sustainable communities. I want to be part of the ever changing …show more content…
I have led and participated in community events that give me a perspective of others, an increased awareness of community and has shaped the person that I am. At Thanksgiving, I led my high school student body, through fundraisers to create nutritional no cost food baskets for local families, where over 100 baskets were distributed. I also led a competition between homerooms to raise funds for Christmas gifts for local children affected by hardship. Lloyd Rodgers would continue being my coach until my senior season of tennis, this is his final year leading the Crook County Girls Team. He hasn’t had a very easy path to this point as years of wear and tear on his body due to tennis has impacted his daily life. Since I started my journey with tennis he has had multiple surgeries in attempts to save his body from the effects of playing tennis his entire life. He has coached me on his worst days of pain, with oxygen on his back and with a herniated disk causing him to barely stand during my mid-match meeting with him. Even after all of that, his body is still slowly keeping up with him as he played against me multiple times this season. He has not had a perfect medical history but his perseverance throughout it all has made him one of my most influential mentors. Due to his expertise in tennis he has taken countless girls to the state tournament with high levels of success. Having players compete at this level of success is a dream for most coaches but for him, it’s a tradition. A tradition that will hopefully continue this year as my doubles partner and I are looking towards that state tournament in hopes to make our lifelong coach
