Looking back on my high school journey, one thing remains steadfast: my determination to travel and study abroad. With this in mind, I have chosen to respond to the second prompt—detailing what opportunity I am most excited about—regarding the Renée Crown University Honors College at Syracuse University. While reading through the Honors College website, multiple programs and opportunities piqued my interest. However, the emphasis placed on studying abroad while at Syracuse intrigued me the most. As a result of growing up in a small town, nothing excites me more than branching out and discovering new places. I plan on it being my first, not final, opportunity to study abroad. As a Political Science major and possible double major in International Relations, I truly believe traveling will set me up for success in my Syracuse education and in my future career. By directly experiencing other cultures, it allows for a deeper understanding of worldwide perspectives, which is essential for someone studying diplomacy and global politics. Likewise, it will enable me to develop connections with peers, professionals, and academia from around the world. It is my belief that I will take what I gain from my experiences abroad and then apply it to my honors courses at Syracuse. In light of the Discovery Program, I will be arriving on campus in January of my first year. I believe that I will come back with a wider range of ideas and perspectives that will coincide smoothly with any honors class. Moreover, I am elated by the potential internships, career prospects, and global knowledge that international travel brings me.
