The Horrific Tragedy that Happened in Sarajevo Franz Ferdinand was the Archduke of Austria, who was born on December 18, 1863. He was the son of Archduke Karl Ludwig of Austria. Then married to the Duchess of Hohenberg; Sophie. They had 3 children, 2 sons and 1 daughter. The daughter named Princess Sophie of Hohenberg. One son named Prince Ernst of Hohenberg and the other named Maximilian, Duke of Hohenberg. Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie’s anniversary was June 28. On the same day Franz Ferdinand had to go to Serbia to inspect the Austro-Hungarian troops. Since he would be gone on their anniversary, the Archduke decided to bring his wife Duchess Sophie with him on the trip. So they had come up with a plan to attempt to kill the Archduke. First they had set up to throw a bomb in attempting to kill the Archduke. The bomb bounced and instead of killing the Archduke they injured 20 people. Instead of the Archduke getting more protection, he stopped and tried helping the wounded people. The members of the black hand had given up. Gavrilo Princip decided to walk down a street, still armed with a pistol. The Archduke and his wife were traveling on their way to the meeting. when they then took a wrong turn down the street that Gavrilo Princip. As they were traveling down the street, Gavrilo Princip came out and shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his pregnant wife Sophie. They both died almost instantly. They both died on June 28, 1914 and so did his wife,in Sarajevo. Even though the whole group called the Black Hand didn't commit the assassination. They were still involved in the bombing and the group behind the assassination. They were then harshly punished for the crime they had
