Chaotic and reckless is usually what kids are known for. A lot of the time people don’t really see what’s behind all the chaos and recklessness. In Batman: Nightwalker by Marie Lu she does a good job showing that people influenced by bad decisions can lead to chaos. Marie Lu uses character, situational, and symbolic archetypes to convey the idea that people are easily manipulated into making bad decisions that can lead to chaos. She shows the idea of “chaos” by showing how Bruce is being influenced to make bad decisions and he becomes reckless and leads himself to trouble. Madeleine likes to play “tricks” and “take advantage” of Bruce and his foolishness (Jonas). Detective Draccon “warned [Bruce] that Madeleine would try to manipulate him” but Bruce was desperate to figure out the answers even though Madeleine was just playing mind games with him (Lu 113). Madeleine knew after a tragic strike from the Nightwalkers Bruce would want answers. Bruce headed to Arkham and set the cameras “so that they were not recording footage of the hall” and then “he headed for Madeleine's cell” to talk to her (Lu 167). Bruce being influenced by wanting to know why the Nightwalkers did what they did and going to talk to Madeleine about it causes Madeleine to make her move and chaos will arise from that. Every hero needs a “mentor” and Alfred is just that to Bruce (“Archetypes”). After Bruce’s parents died, Alfred stepped in as the “father figure” because it was important Bruce grows up with a good “role model” (“Archetypes”). Alfred always wanted Bruce to do good and continue his parents legacy of protecting Gotham and the people. When Bruce needed to go to the gala to save people, Alfred “[kept] an eye on [Bruce]” to make sure he was safe (Lu 214).
