IQ tests; an easy way to show how intelligent you are through one straightforward test. But are they precise in measuring your intellect? The IQ test was not originally made for adult use, instead used for French school children. Shown to be biased towards ethnic groups, inaccurate and too basic for the human brain to show brainpower through one single test, these tests do not show you any sign of how much intellect you possess. Additionally, there are many factors that affect how well you can perform in this test. These misleading test results also could have an effect on your job opportunities, education, social acceptance, longevity.

It is common practice for when identifying and diagnosing a person with a mental disability to have them participate in an IQ test. However, because of the test not being an accurate measure of intellect, some people have been incorrectly diagnosed because of their contradicting IQ score. In 2014, as U.S study found that at least half of the children with Autism had an IQ score over 85, well in the average range, making some medical professionals question their patients diagnosis. IQ tests are often used to test adults, helping employers know which employees to offer job opportunities. However, because of the skewed results when IQ testing, jobs are often offered to the wrong person, leading to over or under exceeding expectations. Self esteem and self worth can be heavily impacted, negatively or positively, by these tests. This can affect an individual's success, as a study from the university of Delaware showed links between higher known IQ scores and higher known intelligence. This may be due to the fact that people with higher known test scores strive to succeed and meet their high expectations, while individuals with lower scores will have lower expectations for themselves.
