Aretha Franklin, born March 25, 1942, is an African American soul singer from Memphis, Tennessee. She is a record setter for women in the music industry, being a prominent female artist with hit after hit in the sixties. Overall, she is one of the most influential singers of our time, labeled as the “Queen of Soul”(McLeese, Don). Growing up, Aretha’s musicality was easily found because of the life she was born into. Her father, Reverend C.L Franklin, was widely known in the U.S as a notable gospel singer. Barbara, her mother, was also a gospel singer. Sadly, Aretha’s mom left the family when she was six and eventually passed away four years later. Because I enjoy music and singing so much, having dinner with Aretha would be out of this world for me. I also appreciate how much she has contributed in the music industry for women, setting the bar high so other powerful, able women can follow her path. I think a good place to have dinner would be at her hometown in Memphis, Tennessee. The food that would be served there would be something with a taste of significance, like Filet Mignon. I feel like it would suit the dinner because Aretha has very rich past and she is a tasteful woman. For a drink, I think we would have soda because in troubled times in her personal life it was told that she was a heavy drinker because of situations going on in her life. I think the soda can symbolize how she has still gotten up and has performed and shined in the world even if trouble has gotten to her. I think the people that would be there would be her children because she had two before seventeen but still managed to have a great career and care for them at the same time. I think Sam Cooke and Martin Luther King should also be there because she empowered the civil rights movement and also supported her family friend Dr. King, and Sam Cooke inspired her career, so Aretha could treat him to a
