The Argentine ant, an ant native to Argentina, is becoming a growing problem in California as the ants expand their territory. The Argentine ant is the species of ant usually found in one’s kitchen and they can be a bit of a nuisance once they settle down in a house. According to Jamie Hansen, the Argentine ants are more susceptible to the drought, because they dehydrate faster and require more water than other ants (Ants Plague Local Residents…). This is why homeowners usually find the Argentine ant in the home more than any other species of ant, for example: the carpenter ant or the harvester ant. The real problem, however, is that Argentine ants kill other species of ants as well as other insects and plants when looking for new territory.
