What is censorship? According to http://www.dictionary.com the definition of censor is “an official who examines books, plays, news reports, motion pictures,radio and television programs, letters, cablegrams, etc., for the purpose of suppressing parts deemed objectionable on moral,political, military, or other grounds.” When you think of censorship you, or at least I think of bleeping out on TV. It can also be censor books in a library, have you ever read a book that caused bad thoughts? Do you think it should be censored or just left for people to decide? I am resolved that Public Libraries shouldn’t be censored for these reasons. While some may say that If we don’t just censor libraries, then this trouble will just go on and on. In fact according to go.galegroup.com in the 1980s, parents who held strong religious convictions filed many lawsuits against the textbooks their children studied in school. If problems like this happened in the 1980s, if we don’t just censor this will just go on, but Imagine all the havoc that would happen if they tried to censor books. In one situation Pat Scales wrote about a teacher who wasn’t Christian complained about a Christmas scene in a book(go.galegroup.com). If that teacher could censor that book she probably would have. Think of all the little children that love Christmas, I don’t know one kid that doesn’t love Christmas. Think what would happen if they couldn’t read Christmas books. Imagine a 5 year old asking a librarian worker “Where are your Christmas books?” Then the Librarian saying “Oh you can’t read those books.” Not only would religious books be censored but a lot more perfectly fine books.
