There is a silent killer among us, it takes people by surprise and causes slow and painful deaths. The name of this killer is cancer which has plagued our planet for centuries and is not showing signs of leaving soon. Cancer kills about 1600 people a day and 8 million people a year. The people who die from this disease where parents, grandparents, siblings, relatives, and beloved friends. Many of these people didn’t not deserve die to this terrible disease. With death comes grief and with the amount of death from cancer there seems to be a never ending cycle of grief. For centuries we have allowed cancer to take what it wants and now it is time we take back control. Through this long journey there has been many failures for a cure, but as scientists continue searching for a cure they are able to learn from these failures which gets them closer each day to finally defeating cancer. With the amount of scientific research to hopefully finding a cure for cancer it is hard to believe that we have not developed an absolute cure. Louis Richie. Throughout her career Dr. Richie saw many patients with cancer and, just as I, firmly believes that scientific research towards the cure for cancer is immensely important. Dr. Richie informed me that cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide and for most cancers there are no cures. There are some techniques doctors use to stop the cancer to continue to grow, according to Dr. Richie, such as radiation therapy, chemotherapy, surgery, and hormone blocking also known as hormonal therapy. These treatments are very expensive and Dr. Richie is convinced that finding a definite cure for cancer will be difficult, but eventually find one. Currently many other countries are trying to also cure cancer and, just as us, are far from a definite cure, but there is one thing that we all share and that is the advanced technology. Finding a cure for cancer uses an immense amount of technology and scientific research towards cancer includes finding new technology that will aid in this journey towards the end of cancer. Until scientists have found a definite cure though Dr. Richie has given me some helpful tips to prevent this disease from invading our bodies.
