Black Thursday or the Holiday formerly known as Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a holiday that is about giving thanks for what we have. It’s history goes back to the Pilgrims who celebrated the “First Thanksgiving” with the Native Americans who had helped them get through their first winter in America by sharing their knowledge of how to live off the land. People are taught this as a child and their are many children specials dedicated to teach these values. People are taught to give to others as well as to give thanks for what we have. People are also taught to come together as a family and to enjoy the holiday, bring a feeling of togetherness to the occasion. However, in present day, Thanksgiving has lost its meaning. Following Thanksgiving is the day now known as Black Friday. For consumers, this means a day where stores have large amounts of deals on a wide variety of items, and it usually serves as the perfect time to do their Christmas shopping. On this day, stores open early while having a large amount of deals on all items in order to attract consumers. In order to take advantage of these deals, people usually get up early in order to wait on line by the stores. And when stores open, people are often times very impatient and will rush in without any regards to others. Often times, fights can break out between consumers over an item both inside and outside of the store, usually leading to either mall security or the police becoming involved to meditate the situation. In addition, as companies have given into consumer demand for earlier hours, some even open on Thanksgiving day. However, because of this, consumers spend less time with their families enjoying the holiday and instead outside in the cold waiting for deals that aren’t always the best. Overall, consumers have become less interested in Thanksgiving, in more so into the commercialization of it through Black
