Your rights might not be protected as you think. Specifically, the 4th Amendment has been failing its promises to the country and its citizens. The 4th Amendment protects citizens from illegal searches, but is frequently violated by the police, FBI, CIA, etc. It’s hard to imagine law enforcers to break the law, but it is very possible and has ruined the lives of two people.

The First Amendment outlines free speech as the right to speak, write, and share ideas and opinions without facing punishment from the government. Without the Constitution, Americans wouldn’t have basic rights and their actions and decisions would be controlled, stressing the importance of free speech. Therefore, the limitations on free speech should be no more than that said in the First Amendment as further restrictions would eliminate the foundations of human rights and freedoms in a democracy, lower one’s knowledge of their individualism, and would ultimately suppress a peaceful society. Today’s education system seems to be a problem in America because the society feels they are not receiving a fair opportunity to succeed. Funding College can have a negative outcome because colleges may become overcrowded and community college colleague’s wages may decrease. Degrees wouldn’t mean as much and taxes may increase. Community college being funded by the government can also have a negative impact on universities because everyone would go to a community before going to a university which could cause many problems. Funding college would add to the nation’s debt because the government would have to improve schools by reconstructing it, so more people would be able to attend the school.

The concept of ‘recidivism’ is central to understanding the criminal justice system. Recidivism occurs when a person commits a crime again despite having been punished before. One of the main goals of the criminal justice system is to reduce recidivism but in fact longer sentences may increase the probability of recidivism (Griffiths & Cunningham, 2000). One reason is that the climate within a prison is not helpful to the inmate in making personal changes that can lead to reduced recidivism. However, psychologists are trying to develop intervention programmes that in fact lead to such personal changes so as to reduce recidivism.
