The lights go on, and the music starts. The dancer’s heart pounds, “bump, bump, bump, bump.” Then, the magnificent dancer awes with her glittering costume, and flawless movements. Some of the audience may watch with amazement. Others may not be so impressed. Some may not consider dance a sport. Some may not understand all that goes into the sport of dance. Dance is just like any other sport, it is mentally and physically exhausting, and the dancer creates good personalities in the process of it all. Therefore, dance should be considered a sport!
Dance is a lot like any other sport. It requires strength, stamina, and can cause injuries. “Dancing demands a lot of energy output because it involves ‘movement in all directions,’” says Nick Smeeton, …show more content…

These athletes face mentally exhausting challenges every day. They need to show their emotion while performing on stage in front of many people. These quick-thinking dancers are trying to remember the choreography, while staying in time with the music and the other dancers. This could be very mentally tiring for the dancers. Along with mentally draining, dance can also be physically exhausting. According to Melissa Stroud who studied dance for 11 years, “By the time I stopped studying, I was wearing ankle braces and knee wraps on both legs during practice.” And according to the article How Physically Intense is Ballet?, they state that, ballet, a form of dance, breaks the body and that “pound after pound, ballerinas are some of the most intense athletes out there.” This is evidence that dancing is physically tiring. After a week of dance, their bodies would be exhausted from all they go through when dancing. Therefore, dance is physically and mentally draining, and furthermore supports the fact that dance a sport. In addition, when performing off or on stage, dance creates many good personalities. To begin with, it creates good self confidence. For example, the article Dance Talk said, “Competing requires a good sense of self-confidence, which increases the more the dancer puts them self out there.” Therefore, many can see how while dancing, either with a group or without a group, it takes a lot of confidence to believe in yourself and say that you can do
