In the US thousands of deadly weapons are sold every year without so much as an ID shown. Guns are extremely easy to buy in the United States. This is for good reason because it is stated in the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution that, “...the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The Second Amendment is followed very strictly and there are little to no laws prohibiting all gun sales. The most insurance gun control laws enforce is background checks. Bans on guns are ineffective and even though they are done, background checks should be more strict and thorough.

Bans on guns actually cause more violent crime. In 1976, Washington DC banned all handguns for private and public use. In the years ensuing, “...armed crime rates skyrocketed” (Lapierre, 2009). This ban causing rise of crime earned Washington DC’s nickname the “Murder Capital.” That is because criminals who ignore all laws will attain guns whether legal or not. If criminals can still have guns to cause crime, but law-abiding citizens can’t purchase guns legally then people cannot protect themselves. At a private gunshow, buyers can pay cash to purchase a gun from a dealer. This dealer can do as little as check ID, if not less, to sell a gun to a customer. The way this happens is because federal law prohibits professional gun dealers from not running background checks, but gun show dealers aren’t seen as “professional dealers” in federal law. So, these dealers have to only follow the gun show rules to sell guns. The gun show rules are usually just to check someone’s ID. Federally regulated dealers’ background checks prevent the mentally-ill, domestic abusers, and convicted felons from attaining guns legally. But, the gun show dealers know nothing about who the person is, so they sell to them as normal
