Argumentative Essay When you are asked the question, “who is your hero?” what comes to your mind? Some people might say a famous actor or actress, others may say a sports star, or a musician, but what about the people who stood up for themselves when everyone was against them. Civil rights activists like Martin Luther King Jr, and Rosa Parks are the definitions of what being a hero is. Someone who fights for what they believe in no matter who may be against them, and someone who is not afraid of getting ridiculed for it. Martin Luther King Jr was raised in a time where blacks were treated unfairly compared to whites. The limited rights of blacks made it hard for Martin Luther King Jr to speak out. Growing up Luther experienced racism first hand, which made him want in the future for everyone to get along. AmericanHistory.com recites Martin Luther king Jr's speech, in his speech Martin Luther says, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character” (Welling.) Rosa Parks is another Civil rights activist who stood up for what she believed in. In 1955 Rosa found a seat on the montgomery bus on her way home from a long day of work. Ushistory.org says “In Montgomery, Alabama, when a bus became full, the seats nearer the front were given to white passengers” (ushistory.org). This became a reality that night when the bus Rosa was forced to give her seat up for a white women, when she refused the Authority was called.
