Why extraterrestrial rockets are perceived to be undeniably real, legitimate, things. Why Flying saucers are perceived to be not tangible, or legitimate things. What is a paranormal anyways? A paranormal is “An event or perception is said to be paranormal if it involves forces or agencies that are beyond scientific explanation.” (Carroll) So if people know what a paranormal is, what is a UFO? An unidentified flying object or also known as UFO is conceived as a probable otherworldly spaceship sightings. (Carroll) Another way to put it is, “Unidentified flying object (UFO), also called flying saucer, any ariel object or optical phenomenon not readily identifiable to the observer.” (Shostak) If there are UFOs is a UAP any different? “ ‘An Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, UAP, is the visual stimulus that provokes a sighting report of an object or light seen in the sky, the appearance and/or flight dynamics of which do not suggest a logical, conventional flying object and which remains unidentified after close scrutiny of all available evidence both a technical identification as well as a common sense identification, if one is possible.’ ” (Roe) These are the differences between a UFO and a UAP. In the year of 1947, Kenneth Arnold alleged seeing nine space crafts when he was piloting his own aircraft. He said it was semicircular and bow shaped. When the tabloids picked it up, they had by accident said saucer shaped. So, people started calling it flying saucers from the article. (Shostak) Citizens around the world got interested in flying saucers after WWII. They got interested because they were curious about rocketry. When people saw these supposed UFOs, they were wondering if it was the Soviet Union using the vehicles to spy on the people of their country. (Shostak) When the Cold War was starting to get underway, Russia started testing bombs and shooting off rockets. People got nervous now for the first time in a while because of Russia, but because of people thinking it was UFOs coming to attack them. (Friedman 108) Since people's interest in UFOs was at its highest then, in 1952, the CIA made a panel of respected scientists to study the appearances of these strange objects. The panel was called The Robertson Panel. (Shostak) Project Blue Book was originally named Project sign, them was overrun by Project Grudge. Next, it finally was replaced by Project Blue Book.
