Introduction Remember back from your childhood ever going to the zoo or to the circus with your parents. You were likely amazed and entertained by the display and performance of the animals you saw. I felt the same way when my parents brought me to the Ringling Bros. Circus everytime they come to town. But I have come to learn recently this circus I’ve gone to many times and enjoyed are closing for good. Animal welfare is the physical and mental well-being of domestic, agricultural, or wildlife display animals under human care and supervision. Micah Issitt wrote in his overview the history of how animal welfare came to be which can be understood by this statement “Early zoos, aquariums, and circuses obtained their animals from the wild and operated with little understanding of how to care for wild animals in captivity.” In the eighteenth century the entertainment industries had little knowledge in care or treatment of their captive animals that may had created animal welfare in means of dreadful.
