Assisted Suicide “An assisted dying law would not result in more people dying, but in fewer people suffering” (Rodriguez).Terminally ill patients suffer everyday all over the world. These patients, like cancer patients, are being put through harsh treatments like radiation and chemo. Problems like these occur everyday and the families of these patients and the patients should be able to do something about it. The terminally ill should be allowed to commit assisted suicide with the help of their doctor if they feel that they don’t want to suffer anymore. If we can do this to suffering animals, then shouldn’t we be able to do the same the people we love and care for. Animals that are suffering in pain are allowed to be put to sleep so they don’t suffer any longer, so why can’t we do the same for humans. For the terminally ill, however, it’s just a means of suffering. “Death with Dignity is an end-of-life option that allows certain terminally ill people to voluntarily and legally request and receive a prescription medication from their physician to hasten their death in a peaceful, humane, and dignified manner” (Parrot). The right to life states that “Everyone’s right to life shall be protected by law. No one shall be deprived of his life intentionally save in the execution of a sentence of a court following his conviction of a crime for which the penalty is provided by law” (“Right to Life”). This means that if a person feels threatened that they have the right to be protected and the only way that someone can be killed is because of punishment for a terrible crime.
